Recommended food pairings for wines produced from these grapes. 5. Historical context and evolution of Nebbiolo, including its biotypes and synonyms. Summary This segment of the Italian Wine Podcast provides in-depth profiles of three significant Italian grape varietals: Anaschetta, Nebbiolo, and Nebbiolo Roseto. It begins with Anaschetta, a white grape native to Piedmont's Novello commune, detailing its challenging viticultural traits, its pale lemon hue with intense aromatic profile (sage, rosemary, ginger), and its savory, lean palate. It pairs well with shellfish and green vegetables. Next, Nebbiolo is presented as one of Italy's greatest and oldest red grape varietals, native to Northwestern Italy, discussing its historical mentions, numerous synonyms, and important biotypes (Lampia, Michet, Rosé). The text describes its demanding vineyard requirements, diverse soil types across Piedmont, and its characteristic transparent ruby to garnet color with complex aromas of red fruits, dried flowers, leather, and tar. Nebbiolo wines are noted for high tannins, acidity, and alcohol, and traditionally produce dry, still wines, though modern experimentation includes sparkling styles. Food pairings include white truffles, roasted meats, and aged cheeses. Finally, Nebbiolo Roseto, a genetically distinct but related grape, is introduced. It's described as more vigorous than Nebbiolo, producing very pale red, exceptionally perfumed wines with wild strawberry and red currant notes, medium-plus acidity, and coarse tannins. Primarily used in blends to add perfume and reduce tannin, it rarely exceeds 20% of a Nebbiolo blend. It also pairs well with white truffles and regional pasta dishes. The segment concludes by mentioning benchmark producers for each grape. Takeaways * Anaschetta is a distinct white grape from Piedmont, known for its aromatic intensity and savory profile. * Nebbiolo is a historically significant and highly regarded red grape, adaptable to diverse Piedmontese terroirs, producing complex, structured wines. * Nebbiolo exhibits a wide range of aromatic descriptors from red fruits to tar and leather, and is high in tannins, acidity, and alcohol. * Nebbiolo Roseto is a genetically distinct relative of Nebbiolo, used primarily in blends to enhance aromatics and modify structure. * Italian wine varietals often have specific challenges in the vineyard that impact their cultivation and yield. * The deep connection between Italian wines and local gastronomy is consistently highlighted through food pairings. Notable Quotes * ""Anaschetta... was overlooked for years until championed by Elvio Conio and Lestrite."

Description native to Piedmont's language territory, it was long found exclusively in the commune of Novelo, better known for barolo production. Also called Anashita and Nashita. It was overlooked for years until championed by Elvio Conio and Lestrite. Today, a growing number of producers are working to expand its recognition. Wine's label, Anacheta del commune de novello, are from the historic novello production zone. Indavignor presents challenges in the vineyard. It has a vigorous canopy, but its maturation is irregular and the yields are low. Tide bunches make it susceptible to gray rot in human years. While it does not perform bass with too much sun, it does need warmth and sufficient deuterium temperature swings to be successful. It is still mainly grown around Novelo. However, plantings are expanding to other parts of the language. In the glass, pale lemon hue with greenish reflections, highermatic intensity, with sage, rosemary, mint, star fruit, and ginger. Decided to lean on the palate, it has a savory quality and the impression that the moderate acidity is higher than it actually is. Nashita ages well developing honey and vanilla notes while still retaining freshness. Specific styles predominantly dry and still. At the table, with its celine notes, it pairs well with shellfish, arugula salads, and harder to pair green vegetables such as asparagus. Associated regions and EOPs, Lange, DOC, Nashita, Lange, DOC, Nashita del comune de novello. Benchmark producers, Elvio Conno, Lestrette, Ector germano, Daniel Conterno. Negiolo. Description, grown in peace mines, Lambert and alcavelli. It isn't clear whether Nebula originated in Lambert or Alto Piamonte but it is certainly native to Northwestern Italy, widely considered to be one of Italy's greatest grape varietals, as well as one of the oldest. Mentioned and written documentation as early as nine zero nine AD, pliny the Elder referred to it as Nubeola. In reference to Latin based nebula, which means fog. Detaling counterpart is Nebula, which would either be a reference to the area's fog or the bloom that is found on the rim. It ripens in late fall when the fog in the region is coming. Recent research suggests even all the roots for the name. See the earlier chapter, Italian finds DNA and myths of origins. Cinnamons, spanner, in Alto Piedmont, Kiaven Nasca, in Valtelina, Picotendra, Picotener in Ausa valley and Prunet in Valdezola. Biotypes. There are numerous biotypes, but the most well known are Lampia, Miquet, and rosé. Although is now known to be a distinctive varietal. Mike is low producing, yeah, makes outstanding wines. Lampia has become the benchmark biotai for Viticulture today. In the vineyard, Neibiala batts early is late ripening and is suited for clay limestone soils. It requires long canes due to poor basil by fertility, sensitive to spring frost and rain, it needs a long growing season to fully mature. A continental climate is best. The GEO training system is preferred as Nibiala requires ample sunlight. In cooler climates, it needs cell than sun exposure and good canopy management, The soils in Piedmont are very diverse and change significantly depending on the precise location. The soils in Langge are complex and layered. There are marine sedimentary soils, from three geological stages with layers of sandstone and clay called flesh. In Roero, the soils are marine sedimentary rock and sand, and either lake or river origin. Are you enjoying this podcast? Nipiola presents differently in the glass, depending on growing location and climbing. The expresses terroir very well and exhibits subtle differences between vintages and aging processes. And the glass. Transparant ruby to garnet in color would perfume an aromas of red fruits such as cherries, strawberries, and cranberries, which can be fresh or dried. Aromas of orange peel oil and zest pupuri of dried flower petals, fresh violets, roses, balsamic herbs, leather, and tar are typical with savory nodes of truffle, kinning and autumnal scents of dried leaves and forest floor as possible. The wines have high tendons, high acidity, and high alcohol, yet are considered medium and full bodied on the pallet. Neibioza has high level of unacylated until silence, and fifty percent of its pigments are cyanine and peony contributing to the production of very pale wines that oxidize quickly. Nepiotto is also well known for being high in nori superannides and highly aromatic. Specific styles, traditionally dry still wines. However, there is now impressive experimentation with blank and wire styles, both cell and sparkling. Before the mid eighteen hundreds, it was vinified as a sweet wine.
