Summary In this episode of the Italian Wine Podcast, host Monty Waldin speaks with Diego Bazoni of Cantinae Lunae Bosoni, a winery located in Corideni, the easternmost part of Liguria. Diego explains the region's unique terroir, nestled between mountains and the Ligurian Sea, creating a peculiar microclimate ideal for vines. He details their 80 hectares of vineyards and their special collaboration with 120 small local growers, a necessity due to Liguria's stretched, fragmented vineyard blocks. Diego shares the winery's history, founded in 1966 by his father, Paolo, who shifted focus from diverse farming to specialized wine production, particularly Vermentino. The discussion highlights the prestigious success of their 2019 Colli di Luni DOC Vermentino Black Label, which scored 96 points and was named Best White Wine at the Five Star Wine Competition. Diego attributes this success to the distinct microclimates and varied soils (sandy, mixed, mineral) across their three growing areas. He mentions their wines are primarily sold in the ORECA market (restaurants, hotels) and recently via online platforms like Italy Wine. Lastly, Diego suggests ideal food pairings for their Vermentino, such as spaghetti with seafood and light fish.
